Ways to Help — Docent Roles at the Wassmuth Center

There are so many ways to align your time, talent, and passion with the mission of the Wassmuth Center for Human Rights.

Explore our volunteer opportunities below.

Memorial Tour Docent

Guide guests through the Idaho Anne Frank Human RIghts Memorial, offering historical context, interpretive insights, and opportunities for reflection. Help guests connect the lessons of history to the ongoing pursuit of human rights. Memorial Tour Docents lead both scheduled group tours and informal conversations with individual guests, ensuring that all who come to the Memorial experience it as a place of learning, remembrance, and inspiration.

Building Tour DOCENT

Guide guests through the Philip E. Batt Education Building, sharing the stories and symbolism that bring the space to life. Docents introduce the History of Human Rights in Idaho timeline, highlighting key moments and individuals who advanced justice and inclusion in our state. They interpret the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Justice Wall, inviting reflection on the meaning of justice, and lead discussions about several of the 28 human rights–themed artworks displayed throughout the building. Through these tours, docents help guests experience the Batt Building as a living story of our community’s ongoing commitment to human rights.

Dimensions in Testimony Exhibit Docent

Guide guests through an interactive exhibit that allows meaningful conversations with Holocaust survivors through pre-recorded video technology. Introduce the exhibit’s purpose and context, help guests engage respectfully with the witnesses’ stories, and facilitate reflection on the lessons of history. By connecting these powerful testimonies to the broader human rights principles at the heart of the Wassmuth Center’s mission, Dimensions in Testimony Exhibit Docents help ensure that the courage, resilience, and humanity of these witnesses continue to inspire action for justice and dignity today.
