Learn at the Center
We welcome student groups of all ages—from elementary to college and beyond—for powerful field trip experiences at the Wassmuth Center. Each visit is facilitated by experienced educators and offers meaningful, hands-on exploration of human rights history and concepts tailored to students’ developmental level and background knowledge.
Whether your students are just beginning to learn about rights and responsibilities or are ready to dive into deeper conversations about historical events and international affairs, our field trips foster critical thinking, empathy, and a vision for just and joyful communities. All offerings align with Idaho state standards and support rich, engaging classroom learning.
In addition to interactive sessions in the Philip E. Batt Education Building, educators may request a docent-led tour of the internationally-recognized Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial. These guided visits engage students in exploring the Memorial’s powerful stories and relevance to current human rights issues.

Availability:
- Wednesdays & Thursdays: 9:30 AM and 12:30 PM
- Fridays: 9:30 AM
We offer three unique field trip experiences:
90-minute Building-Only Field Trip: Ideal for schools looking to dive deeply into human rights themes through interactive lessons, discussions, and activities.
1-hour Memorial-Only Field Trip: This guided tour of the Memorial is perfect for those with limited time or seeking an introduction to the site.
- 2.5-hour Comprehensive Field Trip: Combines the building program with a guided tour of the Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial. This is our most immersive and popular option.
Each experience is designed to inspire reflection, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of human rights.
Field Trip Offerings by Grade Level
Each field trip offers a developmentally appropriate path for students to explore human rights and their role in building just and joyful communities. Use the drop-down menus below to learn more about the field trip offerings for each grade level.
JOY (Kindergarten)
Discover how joy can light up our lives! This field trip invites students to explore what brings them happiness and how sharing joy creates a ripple effect in our communities—whether through laughter, creativity, or acts of kindness. Through engaging art projects and storytelling activities, students will celebrate the power of joy and contribute to spreading positivity in the world around them.
INCLUSION (1st Grade)
Celebrate the beauty of inclusion! Together, we’ll explore what makes each of us unique while appreciating the connections that unite us. Through discussions and activities, students will learn how diversity enriches our lives and how being included—or including others—fosters a sense of belonging. This experience will inspire your class to build a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued and connected.
COMMUNITY (2nd Grade)
Join us for an inspiring field trip exploring the power of community and small actions! Students will reflect on the many communities they are part of—schools, neighborhoods, teams—and discover how even small gestures can create meaningful change. Through hands-on activities and discussions, they’ll be inspired to contribute positively to their communities, proving that every effort counts in making a difference.
RESPECT (3rd Grade)
Explore the transformative power of respect! Students will dive into what respect looks, sounds, and feels like, reflecting on how it fosters trust and strengthens relationships. Through thoughtful discussions and activities, they will discover how showing kindness, understanding, and appreciation for others creates a more supportive and connected world.
UNITY (4th Grade)
Discover the strength in unity! This field trip highlights how teamwork and collaboration allow us to accomplish amazing things. Students will explore the idea that our shared humanity is greater than our differences, celebrating the connections that unite us. Through engaging activities and discussions, they’ll be inspired to embrace unity as a path to building a thriving, inclusive world.
EMPATHY (5th Grade)
Learn how empathy can transform the world! Students will explore how understanding and sharing the feelings of others deepens our connections and encourages acts of kindness. Through activities and reflection, they’ll discover that empathy is about opening our hearts to others’ experiences, fostering a compassionate world where everyone feels seen and valued.
COURAGE (6th Grade)
Inspire students to lead with courage and kindness! This field trip highlights how everyday actions—like speaking up, helping others, and working together—can create positive change. Students will explore the power of teamwork, empathy, and brave choices in building a community where everyone feels valued and included.
HOPE (7th Grade)
Explore the power of hope to inspire and sustain us! Students will learn how hope fuels perseverance, optimism, and resilience, even in challenging times. Through discussions and activities, they’ll understand how hope can open doors to new possibilities and motivate them to turn challenges into opportunities for growth and success.
BELONGING (8th Grade)
Foster a sense of belonging! Students will reflect on how belonging provides comfort, connection, and strength, helping to counter feelings of isolation. They’ll explore how cultivating a culture of inclusion enriches communities and inspires positive contributions, creating a space where everyone feels valued and supported.
INTERRUPTING THE SPIRAL OF INJUSTICE (9-12th Grades)
Empower students to interrupt injustices with an in-depth look at the Spiral of Injustice. They’ll analyze the stages of injustice, study historical examples, and reflect on how these patterns appear in our communities. Through discussions and brainstorming, students will develop creative strategies to interrupt the Spiral of Injustice and create positive change.
JUSTICE (9-12th Grades)
Invite students to think critically about justice. This field trip explores the principles of fairness, equality, and human rights, examining how they are applied in society. Students will engage in discussions and reflections, exploring how individuals advance justice in their communities.
COMPASSION (9-12th Grades)
Encourage students to lead with compassion. This field trip invites students to consider the role of empathy, care, and connection in building strong communities. Through stories, reflection, and interactive activities, students will explore how compassionate actions—both big and small—can create a sense of belonging and support for those around them.
Holocaust History Field Trips
These field trips are designed to engage students in a deeper understanding of the implications of the Holocaust through a powerful experience in our Dimensions in Testimony (DiT) space.
This immersive experience allows students to engage in real-time conversations with pre-recorded, high-definition interviews with Holocaust survivors and witnesses. Using advanced technology, students ask their own questions and hear authentic responses, creating a deeply personal connection to lived experiences of injustice, resilience, and hope.
INTRODUCTION TO HOLOCAUST HISTORY AND TESTIMONY (6-7th Grades)
This introductory field trip offers a foundational exploration of the Holocaust through age-appropriate content and reflective discussion. Students will explore the importance of asking meaningful questions and practice generating their own before engaging with our Dimensions in Testimony exhibit, where they’ll interact with the recorded testimony of a Holocaust witness. The experience cultivates empathy, historical awareness, and a personal connection to the past.
DEEPENING UNDERSTANDING THROUGH HOLOCAUST TESTIMONIES (8-12th Grades)
Designed for students with some prior knowledge of the Holocaust, this field trip deepens historical understanding while strengthening critical thinking skills. After a brief overview of key historical context, students will reflect on the importance of asking thoughtful questions and prepare for an interactive experience in our Dimensions in Testimony exhibit. By engaging with the recorded testimony of a Holocaust witness, students gain insight into the human impact of the Holocaust and the ongoing significance of remembrance.
ADVANCED HOLOCAUST STUDY THROUGH SURVIVOR TESTIMONY (9-12th Grades; University)
This advanced session is designed for students engaged in in-depth studies of the Holocaust, genocide, or human rights. After a brief framing conversation, students will analyze the role of witness testimony in shaping collective memory and advancing justice. They will generate purposeful, probing questions and then participate in a guided interaction with witness testimonies in the Dimensions in Testimony exhibit. This experience supports sophisticated discussion about memory, resilience, responsibility, and the ethical imperative to bear witness.
Field Trip Pricing
Our pricing structure is simple with a flat rate based on the number of students you expect to attend. There’s no need to include teachers or chaperones in your student count. Just round up to the nearest group size when selecting your rate. We’re happy to help with any questions along the way!
Up to 20 students – $100
Up to 30 students – $150
Up to 40 students – $200
Up to 50 students – $250
Up to 60 students – $300
Up to 100 students – $500
If your school is bringing multiple classes over several days, you’re welcome to combine your total number of attendees and make a single payment—just be sure to include everyone in your count.
