22nd Annual Change Your World Gala

2025: A Call for Courage

On Saturday, October 11, courage lit up the room at the Change Your World Gala and it hasn’t faded since. With the incredible generosity of our sponsors, attendees, and online auction champions, we raised more than $344,000 for human rights education in Idaho and beyond. This incredible fundraising milestone demonstrates that there is extraordinary power in what we can do together.

Thank you to everyone who attended the gala as well as those who support our mission throughout the year. Your presence, participation, and belief in our work bring to life the courage our community needs.

With gratitude,

Wassmuth Center for Human Rights Team

2025 Awards

Idaho Human Rights Educator of the Year Award

We are proud to honor Shayna Lopez, a U.S. history teacher in Meridian, with the 2025 Idaho Human Rights Educator of the Year Award. Nominated by a former student, Shayna has been teaching social studies in Idaho for eight hears and is committed to creating a classroom community where every student feels welcome, seen, and valued. She brings the past to life by sharing stories of ordinary people who changed their world for the better, encouraging students to see the power of their own voices and experiences. Alongside her husband Brandon and their two children, Arlo and Oliver, Shayna continues to foster curiosity, inclusion, and respect within and beyond the classroom.

Community Upstander of the Year Award

Sarah Inama has been teaching world studies in Idaho public schools since 2020. She currently teaches at East Jr. High and advises the National Junior Honor Society. Raised in Idaho and a graduate of the University of Idaho in International Studies, Sarah blends a global perspective with deep local roots. Recently, she made headlines for standing by her students when a classroom sign reading “Everyone is Welcome Here” was ordered to be removed under new state laws. Sarah refused, believing that creating a classroom where every student feels they belong is at the heart of her work as an educator. With husband Adrian and their toddler, she loves exploring Idaho—hiking, camping, skiing, and everything in between.
